Foodie Friday -- Chex Mix

Okay, y’all are probably wondering why anyone would go to the trouble of making your own Chex mix when all you have to do is go to the store and buy a bag of something-something.

Well, it’s because the bought stuff stinks.

The bought stuff doesn’t taste anything like the original and you can’t doctor the flavors to your particular tastes, but you can when you make it.

The downside of making your own mix is the numerous boxes of cereal sitting in your closet, plus there is a relatively short lifespan on the stuff since it isn’t chocked full of preservatives.

Original Chex Party Mix

¼ cup butter
5 tsp. Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce
1 ¼ tsp. Lawry’s Seasoned Salt
¼ tsp. garlic powder
3 cups Corn Chex
3 cups Rice Chex
3 cups Wheat Chex
1 cup mixed nuts
1 cup pretzels

Preheat oven to 250 F. Melt butter in roasting pan. Stir in seasonings. Gradually add cereals, nuts and pretzels; stir to coat evenly. Bake 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Spread on paper towels to cool. Store in Ziploc bag. 11 cups.

To make it hotter:   add 2 to 3 Tbls. of Tabasco Sauce.

Enjoy!
