Post Mother's Day

I meant to write and post this on Monday, but I never had time to sit down and actually write the post!

It was one of those days.

You know how it goes: make lunch for kidlet, start first load of laundry, go on hour walkies, rotate laundry, take shower, fold first batch of clothes, next batch of laundry, run to grocery store, fold more laundry, iron a few items, take kidlet to Girl Scouts, run home fold next batch of laundry, bring her home, start her dinner, pick-up doggie poop (wash hands), feed kidlet, empty trash, fold next batch of laundry, take her to swim practice, walk and talk with hubster, come home, fall in bed and sleep like Shaun of the Dead.

The End.

That was my Monday.

For Mother's Day weekend, I wanted to go out of town. Nothing too fancy, but away. I wanted to ride rides at Silver Dollar City and I wanted to go to Eureka Springs (an artsy-fartsy town in Arkansas) to look at jewelry. We didn't want to have to rush home to feed the puppy so we hired a house sitter for one night.

Though we did get up early to drive to Branson, we weren’t on any sort of timeline. Sometimes when we are going to Silver Dollar City, we feel rushed because we need to get home to make sure Maggie gets out of her crate.
We totally chillaxed out: riding rollercoasters and other rides, eating some wonderful Mexican food, walking around Branson Landing and playing mini golf at Pirate’s Cove.

--AND I BEAT EVERYONE!! Scoring a 49, I was one point less than the hubster. Trust me, this is not the norm! And no, I don’t think he gave me a ‘gimme’, he might not have played his hardest though. J
Eventually, we turned in and had a HORRIBLE night at a Holiday Inn Express--worst bed EVER. But they made up for it with their nice breakfast buffet.

Sunday was Mother’s Day.
My best present was our family get away, but my daughter’s gift was right up there with it. Here is her homemade card.

She said that it took her a long time to find a female gnome picture.
She also wrote the poem on the inside and drew the picture.

And made this picture frame.
On Sunday, drove the long way to Eureka Springs, stopping at the Fish Hatchery on Lake Tanecomo. I love feeding the fish! They grow Rainbow Trout to dump into Table Rock lake, so there are tiny fish a couple of inches long up to big ‘uns about ten inches. When you feed them, it’s like piranhas attacking! **remember to bring an old coffee cup or baggie for fish food!*

We drove the winding roads through the Ozark Mountains, taking a few unmarked one lane roads to a new adventure!  In Eureka Springs, we walked Spring Street, wandering in and out of various shops. We ended up eating at the Basin Park Hotel. The food was okay. Next time, we’ll stick with my favorite eatery, The Oasis, “Home of the Arkie-Tex food”.  Next time, I’ll take pictures of this place. It’s definitely interesting.
We drove to a working water mill before coming home.

All in all, I had a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend.
Later, Peeps!

  1. You hit two of my favorite places. Love Silverdollar City. Love Eureka Springs.

You should come to Eureka for the fall writers' conference and stay with the group at the Big Cat refuge! So much fun

  2. Cyndi--I love going to both of these places, too. Usually we do a day trip to either one as it's about a 3-4-hour drive one way.

Hey, Mama Mary! Hey, Grace! ;-)

  3. If ANY of my days were like your Monday, it would make me want to hang myself! But the weekend sounded lovely. I always loved going to SDC and Eureka Springs!

  4. Actually, that was a pretty typical Monday, Jods. Tuesday was similar except I walked, showered, Weight WAtchered, Wal-Marted, took Mom lunch, took Mom on errands, but then I had two hours to critique my friend's new story and write my Weds. blog.
