My Mom Turns 90!

Mom at 18
Yesterday, Oct 16, my mom turned 90 years old. Some of you may realize that I'm her 9th child. And yes, all of us are still living. Mom had me when she was 39 years old and I had Rachel when I was 39 years old. I'd be happy if I lived to 90 and was still as active as my mom.
--uh, I'm not really five inches taller than the others in this picture. . . I have on some serious stilettos. :-)
Mom, Rachel, Me
This river birch behind us has stood the test of time, just like mom. We moved into the house in 1973 and this birch was young and strong. Over the years, it thrived and grew as our family thrived and grew. A few years ago, it suffered major damage due to an ice storm, but even with most of its branches hewn because they broke from the weight of the ice, it still stands and prospers. A few years ago, Mom suffered a heart attach, and yet she is still going strong.

Hubby and I decided to take her out to a nice Sunday brunch at La Villa, a restaurant in Philbrook, a local art museum. It would be just the four of us.

--and then our party grew and grew until we had 10. They barely managed to fit us all around one table. It was a tight fit, but we could actually carry on a conversation with everyone at the table, which NEVER would have happened if they had split us up.
My brother, Jim, is taking this picture.
Everyone seemed happy that no one had to cook or clean up during this process. There was more than one comment that it was nice just to sit and visit without having to worry about 'stuff'. I planted the seed that we might do this sometime over Thanksgiving . . . my brother, Jim, perked up and said, "Where?" This wasn't too surprising, considering we all invade his house for Thanksgiving dinner.

Later, Peeps!

  2. It was a small group, which is good! I have two brothers coming in later this week, and a few more coming around Thanksgiving. Having the horde is fun, but no one really gets a chance to visit.

  4. Happy birthday to Mags' mom!

You look great, Margaret, and the kidlet's beautiful! Last time I saw her, I picked up to give her a hug goodbye, and she wrapped her legs around my waist. Don't think that's gonna happen again!

    Sounds like a lovely celebration!

  5. Thanks, Cyndi. She's growing like a weed, first her feet and then her torso, next should be her legs!

  6. Thanks, Marilyn! When I saw the pictures, I still knew that I had a long way to go!

I don't think you want to pick the kidlet up unless you want to be flat on your back in pain.

  7. Your mother looks so much like you in that picture at 18. How wonderful to still be enjoying a healthy, active life at 90.

I didn't know you were one of 9 kids! Bless your mom's everlovin' heart. Do you think growing up in such a large family influenced your decision to keep your own family smaller?

  8. Jody--before I married, I wanted 5 kids. I loved the noise and chaos. After we had been married for a few years, the number kept dropping. Then when we finally took the big step and had one child . . . that was it!

Neither one of us wanted to be in our 60's when our kid finally graduated from high school!
