This post is after the fact. I wrote it a couple of weeks ago. Sorry, hubster didn't want me to post it prior to our leaving. We're now back from Canada.
Hehehe. . . *giggling maniacally with big grin*
Hubster is going to Banff (Canada) for a work related conference. He'll be staying at the Banff Springs Hotel. Gorgeous hotel. It gave Stephen King the idea for THE SHINING, just wait for the pic with the hotel in the snow and you'll see what I mean. Anyway, hubster's going up early to visit his sister and her family in Calgary. So I was resigned to the fact that the kiddo and I would be alone for six days.
Well, guess what? Hehehehe. Can't guess?
I'm going on a boondoggle!!! (boondoggle--company sponsored trip to goof-off and drink to heart's content) Hubster's last boondoggle was salmon fishing in Alaska pre-kiddo--over ten years ago.
Well, my MIL (aka Grandma) offered to watch the kiddo THE ENTIRE TIME!! Whee!! This is a first! It helps that the kiddo is pretty self-sufficient at most things, including cutting her nails, drying her own hair, cooking mac and cheese and ramen, etc.
I have my confirmation airline ticket in my hot little email inbox. Grandma is coming to stay with the kiddo and the pets, and I will be jetting away with my hubster to Canada.
The weekend will be spent with the family in Calgary and on Sunday we'll leave for Banff. The conference provides all the meals for hubster, including the 'open bar' hospitality room which has no designated closing time.
We debated about adding me to the meal plans and a day trip to Chateau Lake Louise, but we decided that I wouldn't be eating $600 worth of food over three days. Though I have to admit, I tried to convince hubster that I could make it worth his while in the hospitality suite. :-) Yeah, I'm a wine lush. I'll have to figure out how to sneak in.
Hubster's in meetings all day and I'm free to write!!!
All I need is an outlet and a beer and I'm a happy camper typing away. Maybe I'll actually get some serious writing done. If not, then I'll hike on the trails. Or just enjoy the view and plot. Or maybe I'll do one of their horseback riding gigs if they are still open. Or I'll get a massage. Yes, it would be my first real massage.
All I know is that I'll have some quiet time with no responsibilities or child pestering me. *sigh*
I can't wait to . . .
Write on!
Been to Calgary and Banff - went to see a jumping competition at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, - did you go? I remember I was living in CA but met up with a bunch of KJM people in Calgary. Banff is gorgeous. Hope you enjoyed!
ReplyDeleteI've been gobsmacked by the creative muse and have spent many entire nights up writing over the past week. It's a story that has needed to come out for therapeutic reasons and is not something I will ever try to publish, but it's been divine to be wrapped up in that creative force again. It has a life of its own; I just poise my hands over the keyboard and the story writes itself.
It sounds wonderful. I hoped the stay there worked as well for you as for Stephen King. :)
ReplyDeleteLove that area of Canada. Been there a couple of times. Banaff Springs Hotel is really something. Hope you got some good pictures to share
ReplyDeleteIt was a bee-u-ti-ful break, goils! Grandma watched the kiddo and critters and I could do what I wanted.
ReplyDeleteDidn't write as much as I hoped (only 500 words), but I hiked and shopped and read. It was awesome!
I hope to download the pics tomorrow, but the kiddo has a Jog-A-Thon thingy that I volunteered for.
