Last week I bruised my right heel.
How you ask?
By stepping on a stupid kitty litter crystal. One of those darn things was about the size of a 1/2 inch pebble and didn't crunch when I stepped on it. Usually they hurt, but nothing like this!
It started at 6 AM on Wednesday morning when I staggered downstairs to feed the hungry critters. We keep the the cat locked in tiled laundry room at night. He earned the nickname of kittycaticus pukimus. Yeah, and I'm not talking about hairballs. The cat drinks too much water, he heaves. He eats and drinks water, he heaves. He uses the kitty litter box, he heaves. Sometimes, he misses with both ends. Get the picture?
Well, back to the story. Kato scatters his litter. Margaret walks in darkened room in bare feet. She steps on crystal (right where the back of the arch meets the heel) and proceeds to jump up and down cursing while said cat tries tripping her--diabolical thing that he is. It hurt, but I can usually walk it off. Well, I couldn't walk it off--it got worse. I could barely walk Wednesday night.
I took Aleve and went to bed. Woke up Thursday morning--put on a pair of slippers--and took care of the critters. Foot still hurts, but I walk with a weird slid on my right foot. No walking other than around the house, thank you very much.
The result? My joints and muscles hurt from the weird way I'm walking. Taking more Aleve and hope it goes away soon.
The moral? Make certain the cat dies before it gets senile at age 19 1/2. Jus' kidding! And I sweep laundry room about twice a day to get rid of those darn crystals!
Like I need any excuse NOT to exercise, but this really sucks.
Anyhoo--Write on!
Hope your heel heals soon! I go to Pet World and use their kitty litter that looks like gravel. My cat likes it.
ReplyDeleteThat's the nice thing about horses. The world is their litter box. :)
ReplyDeleteMy horse has the habit of dispersing his manure throughout his stall and kicking it around so that it's everywhere. Makes cleaning the stall like panning for gold - if I just keep sifting, I can always find another nugget.
Thanks, Edie. I walked too much today and my foot and ankle hurts. :-(
ReplyDeleteHate to say it, Jody, but the stupid cat thinks the world is his litter box, too! I think he's just getting old and lazy.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I understand what you mean about a walk that is "off" throwing off everything...making your joint hurt.
ReplyDeleteStone bruises - hurt like h*ll. So tiny and yet...
Take it from the expert, Margaret: pets are dangerous. If I counted all the ways mine have done me harm, I'd be looking for new homes for the whole herd.
ReplyDeletePoor baby on the heel. Hope you're over the Quasimodo walk soon.

ReplyDeleteI came across this post by searching "cat litter, heel, hurts" and here you are! The same thing happened to me today and just a few hours later I'm in pain. :( The things we do for those furry critters. ;)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed the post, Pamela.
ReplyDeleteI almost wish I had a chance to bruise my heel via kitty litter again as I lost Mr. Kato three years ago. He was 21 years old. I'd love to find a new kitty, but I'm highly allergic to cats. Even though I managed to inoculate myself with Kato's dander, I don't think my lungs, and subsequent asthma, could survive another kitty's dander.
I hope you enjoy poking around my blog.
