Well, I just said good-bye to the last of our house guests :-(, and y'all know what that means: Laundry, laundry, laundry, folding laundry, making beds, laundry, folding, ironing, cleaning the bathrooms, more laundry, more folding, and more ironing.
Don't get me wrong, though! I love having family come to visit, I just don't like the stuff afterwards. :-) But I have a couple of show sitting on the DVR and I'll catch up on America's Top Model, Project Runway, Survivor, and a few others that I don't recall DVRing, but sure I did.
My niece's wedding was on Saturday at the Dresser Mansion in Tulsa. It was outdoors and the rain gods were looking down on her and her fiancee. After something like 18 days of cloudy, rainy conditions, the sun come out to play. :-) Thank goodness, because I don't think the interior of this place could have supported all the guests! About ten fifteen, my kiddo petered out and we went home. About an hour later our guests rolled in.
All was well until 5:15 when I let the dog out. I turned off the alarm, but didn't reset it when she finished her biz (rhymes with whiz). Normally, that wouldn't be a problem EXCEPT I plugged in the code to 'turn off' the alarm at 7:19 when the dog went out to get the paper. The dog set off the motion detector when she trotted inside and set off the house alarm!
Heart Attack!! Woo-whee! talk about a rush of adrenaline!
Yeah, I apologized to everyone--oopsie.
Well, I got a lot on my plate this week so I doubt if I'll get any writing done. I do have the faint hope of finishing a 1,000-word beginning for Stella Cameron's Scarlett Boa contest, but we'll see.
I hope the rest of you get a chance to . . .
Write On!
I thought about enter the Scarlet Boa this year, but the one year I entered and finaled, I used up all my chits asking for votes. The winner that year was an e-published author with a following, a website, and a yahoo loop where she soliciated votes. Of course Stella shamed us for asking for votes, but that's what everyone does. When there are over 100 entries, nobody has the time to read them all, so they just vote for their friend/chapter mate's entry. After that experience, I've passed every year. Maybe your experience will be different.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is the king of setting off the alarms. But out alarm company has never failed to call!
Oh, I don't expect much from the Scarlett Boa contest, Cyndi, except the challenge of getting the sub entered on time. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe alarm company didn't call because I was too quick to enter the code!
I JUST read that the winning entry gets an editor read. More of an incentive to enter. Hmmm
ReplyDeleteNow, I may have to go back and polish one of my paranormals!
Which one are you entering?
I'm revamping the beginning of Demon Connection from the female protagonist's POV.
ReplyDeleteI am never going to enter a contest again where I have to ask people for votes. Too time intensive, and it's not a true test of the writing quality. It's more of a popularity contest.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I'll be happy to vote for you. So get that beginning done!
Glad you had a great time with your family. Personally, I don't think I could survive seeing mine. But then, they don't like me and wouldn't come over anyway. :P
ReplyDeleteAnd good luck getting your pages in for the contest. I haven't wrote a word since I started back to work full-time. Kinda sucks. But I hope to get into some sort of schedule soon.
Hehehe, Edie, I so agree about the popularity thing. I wasn't popular in school, so I'm not disappointed now when I don't win the pop. vote. :-)
ReplyDeleteIf I manage to get it subbed on time--I'll send out an announcement with the link, BUT I always hook on a qualifying statement that if you don't like it--don't vote for it.
I so understand the time crunch thing, Kira. I'm swamped with extracurricular stuff until the END of October that I know I won't be doing any writing!
ReplyDeleteGive it some time--you'll find your groove!
