Mesopotamian Gods and Goddesses

I've been busy thinking up a new series idea.  Walking while on Weight Watchers is helping me along in this endeavor. Don't worry, I'll still work on my Goblin's Apprentice series--three more stories are scheduled to come out, the first one in September!

--Oh, BTW, I've lost 9.0 lbs in two weeks!  YAY!

Anyhoo, I'm researching my overall story arc that will be the underlying problem in this 4 book series, BUT I'm having to do a lot of research to figure out motivation behind it.

To that end, I'm sending out a SOS to anyone who happens to be knowledgeable about ancient Mesopotamian gods and goddesses. Familiarity with the 'cradle of civilization' will also be helpful. I know I have a few lurkers who are from this area of the world, so I'm speaking to you. I don't care about modern politics or issues--it's the ANCIENT GODS THAT INTEREST ME.
