Save The Cat!

For all of you wanna-be writers, I have a wonderful book for you to read. Save the Cat by Blake Snyder is a book about screenwriting, but it is so much more than that. It can help you figure out what your story is all about. In other words, the underlying theme.
For the last few years, I'd been confused about what I wrote, since I like to mix genres. Okay, truth is the first two books are learning experiences, but the next three manuscripts posed the same problem. Is it a romance? No, not really, there's too much plot and not enough internal conflict. Is it a mystery or suspense? Yep, but it has too much internal conflict and not enough action. How about a fantasy? Yes, but it isn't really urban fantasy (too soft) or straight epic fantasy. Then what the heck is it?
Blake breaks the story types into easy to understand themes, relating to them to movies everyone has either seen or heard of.
Enjoy his book as you think about your stories and where they fit in his categories.
